Emotions are mental states caused by neurophysiological changes that are associated with various thoughts, feelings, behavioural responses, and a degree of pleasure or displeasure. Emotions and mood, temperament, personality, disposition, or creativity are frequently intertwined.
Emotions are “a positive or negative experience associated with a specific pattern of physiological activity.” Emotions cause physiological, behavioural, and cognitive changes. Emotions’ original role was to motivate adaptive behaviours that, in the past, would have contributed to gene transmission via survival, reproduction, and kin selection.
Emotions are difficult to understand. Emotion is also related to behavioural proclivity. Extroverted people are more likely to be social and express their emotions, while introverted people are more likely to be more socially withdrawn and conceal their emotions. Emotion is often the driving force behind motivation. Subjective experience, cognitive processes, expressive behaviour, psychophysiological changes, and instrumental behaviour are all components of emotions.
